Is it possible that a metallic cell could replace any organic cell both in structure and function?
No. The cell membrane that holds the cell’s innards is an active “skin” (technical term: membrane) containing 1000’s of receptors and transporters that actively sense, signal, and transport what’s going on outside the cell to the inside. For example, it’s how nerve cells transmit impulses, immune cells trigger the proliferation of “clones” that creates the immune response, and how the body signals the pancreas to produce insulin to sop up the sugar in that doughnut you had for breakfast.
