Is it possible for DynSite to update my own Windows 2000 DNS server instead of using a 3rd-party DDNS service?
Yes, DynSite can update any RFC2136-compatible DNS server, including the Windows 2000 DNS server. On the server side, you need to create a zone and one A record that DynSite will update. You need to configure this record to accept dynamic updates. In DynSite, you can configure that record from the Account Assistant: • Welcome to the Account Assistant, click Next • What type of server to configure? Select DNS Servers. Click Next. • What do you want to do?. Select Configure a new DNS server. Give it whatever name you want and click Next. • Configuration of a DNS server, enter the IP address or the host name of your DNS server and its port number (default is 53). Tick I want to configure a zone on this server. Click Next. • Configuration of a zone, gives this zone whatever name you want, enter the zone (e.g. mycompany.com), and the host name to update (this is the A record that you configured in your DNS server), click Next. • Confirmation, click Next then click Finish.
