Is it possible for an actor/actress to never become famous?
Statistically, you won’t become famous. And if that’s your reason for wanting to be an actor, I’d advise you to choose another career. Most of us struggle to just get to the middle. A very small percentage of actors make it to superstar status. It’s completely subjective; I know brilliant actors in NYC who drive cabs for a living and I know untalented hacks who are household names. They just happened to have a stroke of luck and were in the right place at the right time. To the second part of your question as to whether you can still make a good living out of it, that all depends on what you consider a “good living”. Acting gigs are looked on as something you do in-between being unemployed. Call the three unions that represent actors, Actors Equity (stage), Screen Actors Guild (movies/tv), and AFTRA ( live tv like soaps, etc.).
