Is it the parent that is attacking the baby? You didn’t actually say. If it is the parent they sometimes do this to get the babies out of the nest so they can lay again. For obvious reasons this is a bad bad trait in a breeding hen, especially if the baby isn’t weaned yet. Hens that do this should not be used again for breeding. If it is another adult bird (not the parent) doing it it may be a female after the nest. If another female wants a nest that is already occupied they will destroy eggs, kill babies already hatched and sometimes even kill the hen. If it is another adult supplying more nest boxes usually (not always) stops this from happening. If it’s not the hen hurting her own chick it would usually be better to leave the chick with her, remove the rougue bird and let the parent raise the chick. However birds do tend to abandon (or toss from the nest) weak or sick chicks so you would need to keep an eye on her to make sure she will still care for it. If it’s the father attackin
