I don’t know the horsepower of the engine on a shrimp boat is but I’m sure it is technically possible; however, the economics would seem very poor. Between the cost of the conversion and the cost of recharging your batteries from purchased power, I doubt you would end up saving any money. If you recharged by using a diesel generator, I suspect the cost would still be prohibitive. Finally if you used solar or wind power, the cost is still very high. Maybe if you could go for long enough between cruises, a wind generator might be economical in terms of recharging the batteries but the conversion cost would still be pretty high. Based on your additional comments, those shrimp boat owners are going to laugh you out of the room.Since you have ruled out solar and wind power to recharge the batteries, that only leaves diesel or a similar fuel source.
