When there is a rule infraction during league play that would require a forfeit as a penalty, an officer has authority to enforce league rules and to declare the game(s) forfeited. Since the officer would be enforcing a rule, rather than protesting games, a written protest would not have to be filed. If an officer failed to act, or the team involved wanted further consideration, then a written protest would have to be filed, in line with Rule 119. In our league, we figure team and individual averages after bowling three games. On the first night, if a team is bowling in a forfeit situation, how would you determine whether the team “earned” points for the three games since averages are not established until the series completion? The team would have to wait until the end of the series to figure individual and team averages.
