Is it okay to drink one or two alcoholic drinks while on zoloft?
Zoloft is often prescribed for depression. Depression and alcohol don’t mix well. Therefore the drug manufacturer says “Don’t drink alcohol”. I would guess that the drug manufacturer is saying don’t drink because they want to cover their behind from any potential lawsuits. Plus, zoloft can intensify the effects of alcohol, so one drink might feel like two…. so again, someone who’s really depressed goes and has two drinks, and they feel like they have had four drinks… and they might make some really bad decisions… But I found this article, which seems to suggest that, like everything, moderation is the key, and an occaisional drink might not be too harmful: “When there is a noticeable reaction from mixing alcohol with anti-depressants, it’s often an amplified response to the alcohol, i.e., one drink may end up feeling like two.
