Is it OK to use CITGO Heavy Duty Engine Oil in the transmission of my old1965 CAT dozer and grader?
Most likely yes, you can use HD engine oil of the proper viscosity in most older CAT transmissions, however, while Caterpillar once approved engine oil for this service, the materials now used in newer CAT’s and other similar transmissions designed for off-road use have changed and require a higher degree of friction for proper performance. Engine oils contain higher levels of friction modifiers causing clutch slipping.
