Is it OK to take a 5 month old baby to a funeral or a viewing?

In the same situation, I brought my son. He was 2 months old at the time and breast fed. We live 400 miles from where the funeral was and we were only in town by chance visiting my in-laws. My husband’s best friend’s mom, who was like a second mom for my husband when he was growing up had been ill for some time. While we were up, his friend called to say things were not looking good, so we went to the hospital to be with him while he was there for his mom. We left the hospital and the friend called a few hours later to say she had passed. We had no one to watch our son for the funeral and called our friend to say we wished we could go, but were concerned about bringing our young son. He absolutely insisted we bring him and that he couldn’t imagine going through this without us there. We did go to the viewing, funeral, and burial with him (I had no worries about the actual event happening in terms of my child’s psyche and I don’t think that seems to be what you are worried about either,
