Is it ok to shoot .22 Short CB ammo through a rifle?

You can shoot them in your rifle, but they may not feed reliably from the magazine. You’ll have to try them in your rifle and see. Make sure to clean the chamber thoroughly after firing the .22 Shorts. They will leave deposits in front of the case mouth which, if not removed, can form a basis for rust to form. That can make feeding (chambering) and extraction difficult, especially if the rust results in pitting. If you want the same velocity without the chamber issue, shoot .22 Long CB ammo instead. It is the same length as regular .22LR ammo, so only standard cleaning procedures will be required.
