Is it ok to lower the intake of food to lower blood sugar readings?

Your husband’s idea is not accurate. Eg: A FASTING blood glucose test is the MAJOR way of DIAGNOSING Diabetes. The person doesn’t eat ANYTHING for 12 hours and when they go in for their test, if the blood sugar is above normal, that indicates diabetes. SO…if someone who has diabetes hasn’t eaten anything for 12 hours can still have elevated blood sugar, restricting the amount a food a person eats is NOT going to have an impact. Now…the TYPE of foods a person eats and when they eat them can have an impact on blood sugar readings. A bit of protein at every meal (meats, cheese, etc) and snack and COMPLEX carbohydrates (brown rice, whole wheat breads, nuts, etc) rather than simple carbs. Avoid refined foods, sugar, candy, etc. If you give your son insulin and then don’t feed him properly, you run the risk of severe hypoglycemia that can result in coma and or death. Don’t play around with it.
