Is it OK to have an energy drink to help me pep up when Im feeling low?
No, many of those energy drinks are packed with caffeine, sugar or sugar substitutes that can pass through the placenta, and a variety of other herbs (not FDA approved) that may or may not be good for baby. If there is a particular drink that you favor and think that it may be ok, bring it in to your doctor and you can examine the ingredients together. In general, you should be trying to replace bad habits with good ones. Instead of reaching for the caffeine packed soda, coffee or energy drink, eat a high-protein snack to reinvigorate you. Nuts, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, cheese, yogurt, a piece of fruit, or a healthy balanced energy bar with water or juice are all better options for you and your baby.
