Is it ok to eat lots of fruit when doing the Syndrome X diet?
Fresh fruits are an excellent source of carbohydrates and are high in vitamins, minerals, fiber and fructose. Fructose does not elevate blood glucose levels as much as other simple carbohydrates. Most calories in fruits come from simple sugars such as fructose and sucrose, so you cannot eat unrestricted amounts of fruits. Canned fruits may be very high in added sugar and the fruit has lost a lot of its nutritional value. Some dried fruit is also high in sugar and should only be eaten in moderation. It is best substituted with fresh fruit.
