The magnet sticks to the metal vent cover and seals the vent. When you want to remove it, just pull it off and store it for next winter. Don’t use flammable material to cover the vent, or you could start a fire. You might also want to investigate insulating your electric outlets. Take the outlet cover off the wall, and if you feel cool air coming in from the dead space in the wall, you can insert a styrofoam outlet cover that fits around the outlet before screwing the cover back in place.
