Is it normal to have a thick white / clear discharge in the first months of pregnancy?

Hey, yes this is normal. Vaginal secretions begin to increase in early pregnancy, resulting in a clear, sticky discharge that may dry to yellow or slightly brown colour on your undies. Most women notice this discharge from as early as 8-10 weeks although some will notice no obvious change until much later in the pregnancy. The quantity of secretion varies from woman to woman and from pregnancy to pregnancy. The increased secretion is due to the increased blood flow to the cervical and vaginal tissues. If the secretion becomes smelly or causes itchiness or irritation this could be due to the constant wetness irritating the vulva’s skin. It may also be due to a vaginal infection, so any irritation or soreness should be reported at the next prenatal visit.
