Is it normal to be bruised after getting spayed?
No need to worry unless there is excessive swelling, oozing or the incision is hot to the touch. Be sure to keep her activity level to nearly nothing for the first 7 days after surgery to prevent injury. Bruising can happen. The skin is actually pinched and pinned with the surgical drape to hold the incision open to access the reproductive organs. If it’s not truly bruising, it’s possible that what you are seeing is staining from the betadine wash to sterilize the incision site prior to surgery.
