Is it normal for an outside garage door opener to stop working because of cold weather?

I am having the same exact problem. Whenever the temperature gets very cold or drops quickly, my garage door opener stops working. It either starts to go down and immediately bounces back up or does not move at all. The only way we can close the door is from inside the garage by holding the button down until the door is fully closed….haven’t figured out the reason yet. If anyone can help, let me know!
