Is it necessary to learn programming inorder to be a game designer?
There are thousands of people just like you who want to be game designers. Unfortunately, ‘creativity’ isn’t a quantitative measurement, so you can’t just take a test and add “I got a 99% on the University Game Designer Test” to your resume. You need to show people that you’re capable of doing the job, and doing it well. Unfortunately, even if you have hundreds of great ideas, no matter how good they are, they don’t matter. Game companies aren’t going to hire you based on your concepts. What you need to show people is that you can make games good. Unfortunately, this requires being able to put things on your resume like completed games. So, here is the advice I can give you: DO NOT go to a gaming college. If you found out about your college-of-choice in an advertisement on IGN, it’s a horrible choice and you have little hope of being successful if you try it.
