Is it necessary to install water hammer arrestors?
No, not always. However they should be added to installations when the possibility of a water hammer and pressure spikes are present. Spikes and water hammer can be caused by water source fluctuations, opening and closing of electric solenoid valves, air in the water lines, etc. Water hammer arrestors can be easily made from standard PVC fittings.
