Is it necessary to give zakat for the profit obtained illegitimately?
If the owner of the profit obtained illegitimately is known, it is necessary to return it to its owner; if the owner is not known, it should be given to the poor or charitable institutions without expecting any reward from it. Accordingly, since the profit obtained illegitimately needs to be returned to its owner or to be given to the poor or charitable institutions, giving zakat for it is not in question.
