Is it necessary to give zakat for adornment (jewelry)?
The articles of adornment other than gold and silver are not subject to zakat. According to the ijtihad of the majority of the scholars including the three madhhabs except Hanafis, adornment (jewelry) is regarded among the essential needs of women and they are not subject to zakat, that is, it is not necessary to pay zakat for them. However, according to Hanafis, if the jewelry of a woman is equal to or more than the amount of nisab, it is necessary to pay zakat for them.
