Is it necessary to finish DensGlass Gold joints or use building paper?
Both the 12-month exposure warranty and the 5/10-year warranty against manufacturing defects do not require finishing of DensGlass Gold joints. The main reason you might consider finishing sheathing joints is to prevent air infiltration or moisture penetration into the wall cavity. A joint is a mechanical opening and DensGlass Gold cannot control how tight or loose it may be. Poor workmanship, a rough field cut, misalignment with a crooked stud, etc., could allow air to infiltrate the wall cavity. In lieu of finishing the joints, DensGlass Gold sheathing can be wrapped in building paper such as Tyvek felt. While we do not require the use of building paper, it may be mandatory if local code requires it.
