Yes, it’s totally normal. And the high polish only makes it more noticeable. This is assuming you’re talking about real wood floors, which will dent and scratch more than laminate flooring. Also, it depends on the wood. A harder wood -e.g. hickory, teak, even oak- will not dent as easily as a softer wood- say pine, which is very soft but can make a nice floor. Cherry is pretty medium, maple can be hard or soft depending on the type. But more than likely, you’re just seeing the imperfections in the finish- just like using semi-gloss on a wall instead of satin. The finish reflects more light and therefore shows every imperfection. Depending on the finish, you could pretty easily dull it with a very high grit sandpaper or even steel wool or scotch brite, if you think you’d like that look.
