Is it mandatory to participate in the GreenCart?
Like all waste management services, we encourage people to reduce the amount of garbage and increase their recycling. Since 45% of the average garbage bag in Halton contains food scraps and compostable paper that could be turned into compost and diverted from landfill, the GreenCart will divert this waste for you. With the implementation of the GreenCart program, garbage collection will be reduced from a six bags weekly service to six bags every other week.
