However, using a replica gun as if it were a real gun (threatening someone with it) is considered to be exactly the same offence as if it were a real gun, and carries a 10 year maximum penalty in England and Wales. Decommissioned weapons (such as those which have simply had internal working parts removed) are still illegal, as they are often bought to be brought back into use.
