For personal use or non-public performance use, you are allowed to copy your purchased CD to an MP3 player. This is known as “Space-Shifting”. Commercial use requires appropriate licenses from agencies, such as JLO, ASCAP, Harry Fox etc, or the written approval from the copyright owner. BETAMAX PRECEDENT The landmark U.S. legal precedent set in 1984 for allowing consumers to space-shift content they own to other formats and devices for the purpose of personal use.
