If there is nothing materially wrong with the item, then the shop is perfectly within its rights to refuse to exchange any item. The fact that it’s a sale item is neither here nor there. If you bought the wrong size, then I’m afraid it’s your mistake. Only if the item has a material defect; or is not fit for the purpose it was meant for do you have a valid legal remedy.
