You may be surprised to hear this, after so many other people answered the same way, but….it’s just you! From an outsider looking in, I can see why you may have initially thought this, but the two are NOTHING alike. Your assertion that Buddhism is a religion that stresses learning to achieve a greater sense of awareness, ability, and knowledge is somewhat misleading. Buddha stressed that that all beings have Buddha nature and thus are all Buddhas. We learn to identify this nature and awaken our Bodhicitta (will to become Buddhas) The ‘ability’ we try to awaken is compassion or all beings and the knowledge, is the knowledge of the unborn mind, out Buddha nature, our TRUE selves. Scientology stresses the resolution of past life trauma to make a better present life. This is in contrast to the Buddhist notion of Karma. I’m not very familiar with Scientology, but L Ron Hubbard was a protege of Aleister Crowleys and Crowley was heavily into the eastern systems (as well as most others.)
