Is it important to perform air testing in addition to surface sampling?
Air testing does detect the presence of mold in the air by using special air-sampling equipment and sampling cells. However, surface sampling is an easier method for detecting the presence of mold. Once mold is present on a surface, it has most likely already become airborne. When mold reaches the surface where air is warmer and circulating, the outer spores will most likely dry and become airborne. This is sometimes detected by individuals via a musty odor or allergies and other health effects.
