Is it illegal to throw away an old computer or printer?

Posted on 17 July 2010 I’ve had an old computer and an old printer in my closet for years now and I need to get rid of them. I just want to know if there is some kind of law against throwing those items in the garbage. I live in Los Angeles if that means anything.
