Is it illegal to photocopy exam papers before sent off?

I can’t comment on the lawfulness of this as I expect any illegalities would relate to matters of copyright and data protection, and I have no specialist knowledge of these areas. I think it is a very good idea though. When a student gets an unexpectedly low mark in an exam, it is often very difficult to challenge the result, as only the exam board knows how they actually did. If the school has photocopies of the scripts however, they will of course have a very good idea of whether the mark is justified, and can back up any complaint. So “full marks” to those resourceful teachers, ha ha! Oh dear.
