Is it illegal to disperse creamated remains on lakes in Michigan?”
…had laws restricting where you can disperse cremains. According to us-funerals.com: “Direct cremations, in which there is no service included, is by far the least expensive option. The cremated ashes can be kept in an Urn, keepsake or scattered in a favorite place of the deceased. The ashes can also be buried or entombed at a local cemetery where other family members are.” The only other caveat I have seen is that scattering should be done in uninhabited areas. That is, don’t go into some one’s yard. However, as far as I can tell, it is fine to disperse ashes into the lakes. Others noted that they had scattered ashes in Lake Michigan, which actually is where my grandfather’s ashes went 30 years ago.
