Is it ilegal to cover a manhole with block paving?
You can get man-hole covers specifically for block paving purposes so that your chosen blocks can be cut to size and in-laid into the top of the cover – the cover of course is still removable for access purposes. You would only really just see the manhole covers very thin metal lid frame indicating the location of the cover etc. Whatever you do – DO NOT cover it permanently. Although a different situation, a few interesting things were learnt by me,thankfully at a early stage, which may help; Is the man hole cover part of a shared drainage gully with other houses in the street – in my case it was, and Thames water here in London advised, that it was effectively a public access point as any blockages under my man hole cover could obviously back-up along the gully and effect other households in the street – because of this they advised me against having the access within my new extension, as they have the right to gain entry at anytime, occupants or not and access the point without my pe
