Is it harmful to drink a lot of sparkling water i.e., Perrier, Pellegrino?
I drink a lot of sparkling water, and so I did some research on this a couple of years ago. I found three things that are potential problems with it. 1. Sparkling water is more acidic, which could be hard on your teeth. Drinking non-carbonated water in-between and brushing often with fluoride to strengthen the enamel ought to help, but it is still acid on the enamal. 2. Some people find it upsets their stomachs, in which case they should avoid it. 3. Sparkling water is more refreshing, which is to say it relieves the feeling of being thirsty after drinking less of it. This could lead to dehydration, especially for people in sports or in hot weather. You didn’t mention flavored sparkling waters, which could have even more acid, sugars, or aspartame. I assumed only unflavored water. For some reason, there are a lot of articles warning of the dangers of sparkling water, but none of them seem very clear on what those dangers are. It seems to be something that is popular to criticize.
