Is it harder to be a good parent nowadays?

I think in some ways it is harder. For one thing, most families do not have anyone at home full time anymore, so kids don’t get the kind of consistent discipline they would get from their parents. Also, kids have more access to questionable influences these days via the internet and cable tv. But, I think the most difficult barrier that parents have these days is that in the old days, you could always count on other parents in the neighborhood, at church, and at school to correct your children when they see them doing something inappropriate (and, of course, to inform you of what they are doing when you aren’t around). These days, people are too afraid to “butt in” which gives kids more room to do bad things.
