i’m a children’s nurse and wouldn’t want to be anything else. It is hard work but with anything in life you take the good with the bad. I currently work on a paediatric haematology/oncology ward where the children do get very sick but the rewarding part is when they get to go home and you know that you have had a part in getting them to that point and that they are a lot better than when they came in. It doesn’t always go that way though so you do have to face the fact that very young children can die quite early on in your career. That is one of the most distressing parts of the job as you are trying as a team to get them better but it does not always work. The job in itself is quite demanding from many aspects but you have to be very assertive with patients care to being able to be a form of advocate for them.
