Is it hard getting used to such things as living in community or wearing the habit?
It is important to understand that the Dominican Order does not put out “cookie-cutter” brothers. Each brother struggles with his own things and must take responsibility for his formation. Wearing the habit is not a great struggle for the novices. There is a period of adjustment to putting on and wearing the habit as a son of St. Dominic. Some wear it all the time, others only when required. As far as living together, everyone struggles in differing degrees with community life. All are learning the personalities and dispositions of each other. In charity we grow to live and love each other as brothers in Christ. We have twelve men living on one floor of the novitiate sharing many common spaces, and through personal transformation in Christ and a genuine love for one another, we all get along quite well.
