Is it good that the Senate rejected the Federal Marriage Amendment?
On Wednesday, The United States Senate rejected a proposed amendment to the Constitution that would define “marriage” as an institution solely between a man and a woman. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time the president and his right-wing conservative friends have tried to make homosexuals second-class citizens. It probably won’t be the last, either. But the overwhelming difficulty of passing a constitutional amendment will hopefully ensure that future proposals meet the same fate as those that have come before it: failure. Since the chances of successfully passing the amendment were slim to none all along, the only thing the president is getting out of this deal is a renewed sense of commitment and affection from his political base. With Iraq in ruins, gas prices sky-rocketing and the ominous clouds of mid-term elections on the horizon, the president definitely needs the extra help. However, to demean and discriminate against ordinary Americans for political gain is shameful and is
