Is it faster to conduct the penetration test than assess vulnerabilities with a vulnerability scanner?

Vulnerability scanners are really fast at what they do, identifying potential holes in individual network components. Although the VISTA Internal Security Audit performs well at this task, it is certainly not faster than the fastest a vulnerability scanner. The core reason is that we actually exploit vulnerabilities and penetrate deeper into the network, demonstrating risk more thoroughly than a vulnerability scanner can so the process necessarily takes longer.
