I am glad the man has been freed on appeal. Looking at the background to the case, it does seem that the brothers went beyond defending their family and gave the intruder a beating. We do seriously need to bolster and clarify the legal rights of victims. The right to use reasonable force against an attacker or burglar should be upheld and any moderate injury the offender sustains should be viewed as their risk in the first place. If you break into someone’s home and threaten them, you should expect to be chased back with force. This seems reasonable to me.
