Is it ever permissible to spank or smack a child?
A quick tap to the behind, or a slap to the hand gets the child’s attention. Anything more than that is a danger however, as it achieves little and can do harm. I also do not believe in using implements. My mother used to use a feather duster with a cane handle. She terrorised me with it. I never saw the need for it with my girls, and I do not think they have grown up as worse human beings. I believe that discipline and boundaries are necessary, but not to the point of injuring a child. If it hurts your hand, it is too hard.
