Is it ever difficult to distinguish conscience from self-interest?

0

Conscience often dictates that we act against self-interest (narrowly defined). But living in accordance with our conscience is ultimately in our best interests because it means that our self-respect remains high. Whenever we rationalise our conscience away we damage our own integrity which is one of the most harmful things we can do to ourselves.
