Is it ethical to treat or sell treated gemstones?
It is ethical to apply treatments to improve and enhance the quality of gemstones as long as: • the treatment is globally accepted and a stable method pertaining to the particular gem variety; • the treatment applied on the gemstone is disclosed to the customer prior to sale; • the treated or enhanced gemstone is not falsely represented as otherwise; and • the treated or enhanced gem is priced accordingly.
