Unfortunately, I must say that I think Chloe is mistaken. To address her example: when I got into Princeton, I had written Political Science as my intended major. But at most universities (including Princeton and I think the UCs too), the “intended major” on the form is just either a survey (to tell them a little more about who you are) or for their statistical purposes. The intended major you write does NOT automatically become your major. Instead, you declare a major in your first or second year. (And if the major is a selective major or on honors major, you DON’T automatically get into it just because you wrote it on your college application. You still have to apply to the major after you arrive at college.) I ended up deciding to go to Yale for college, and I applied to a selective major during my sophomore year.
