Sadly, no it is not. There are very few wheelchair accessible units in each building and they seem to “roll-over” less often than other units. People who get them – keep them. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply for a HUD voucher. Before you find a place to stay you have to get a voucher. The vouchers are distributed at different times of the year depending on how short the waiting list is. A few months ago they were distributing 500 vouchers near me. They were to start distributing them at 9AM. People started lining up at 4AM. Someone came at 6AM and distributed number 1-500 to people – and hundreds of people didn’t get them. Where I live the waiting list is an estimated 8 years long.
