Is it difficult to negotiate with dealers at cards shows?
Not really. Most dealers are willing to negotiate. A few things you should keep in mind: 1) Know the facts. This should help your confidence level. Know all the latest trends. If you know what you are talking about, you won’t fall for some of the “used car salesman” sales methods. Don’t be too obnoxious and rude, but be confident. 2) Dealers shouldn’t ask you to buy something due to investment value. If it is such a great investment, they would be keeping it to sell at a later date. It’s just hype. 3) Scrutinize the condition of the card. Never be afraid to back out of a deal because of card condition. If the dealer says “it’s no big deal, it’s just a little defect”, don’t believe it. 4) Make your offer. Keep in mind that many dealers will sell at half the hi-book value for most cards. Factor in overhead of table fee so as to make a fair offer.
