Usually if it’s your first application for a Schengen Visa they might ask you to come to the embassy personally. If you are in Russia, they might ask you to go all the way to Moscow, since embassies are all in the capital. If you are lucky they will ask you to simply show up at the nearest consulate. It’s a little complicated for Russian Citizens so be prepared to be asked “tons” of documents including bank statements, job certificate, and other proofs that you will not stay in the Schengen Territory illegally after your Visa has expired. There are many travel agencies in Moscow that does a service called “visa assistance”. What they do is simply make the appointment for you at the Embassy or Consulate and give you the list of requirements.
