Is it dangerous from a cardiac point of view to take a sauna after exercising?
Yes. Information about the nature of your prior cardiac troubles would be helpful. But your primary concern would be dehydration and/or salt imbalances that began with exercising. You worked your heart, which is good, but sitting in the sauna or hot tub continues to put strain on your heart as it works to redistribute blood to keep key organs cool. The sweating that occurs in the sauna would further exacerbate any type of salt imbalance. If you were to stay well hydrated with a proper salt-balanced beverage, you can minimize your risks. A cool rag around your neck will help keep your brain cool and alleviate some of the strain that your heart may experience.
