Is it considered impolite to take home food from a fine dining restaurant?
Ridiculous, I think that nowadays, it’s probably considered less polite to have them toss out good food. If I were a cook, I’d be more offended by that, than if they wanted a doggy bag. If they like the food, they want to eat the rest later, right? I don’t take the leftovers with me when I’m underwhelmed with the quality of the food. Many upscale places now have very nice customized boxes and bags for their leftovers and also for takeout. As a side note, many of them do not advertise that they offer takeout but lots of folks want a fabulous meal and they want to have it at home, where they can share a bottle of wine without risking the horrible consequences of having just one or two drinks and getting caught. Some people simple can’t get out but they like fine dining and have the money to treat themselves. Regardless of the reasons, even upscale restaurants can not afford to ignore the fact that people are trying to do more with less, and that it makes no sense to pay 50 or whatever bu
