Is it common practice by dealers to mount the front license plate bracket without customer consent?

Some dealers install them without asking; others ask the customer first. The best approach is to ask the dealer not to install the tag when they are prepping the vehicle for delivery, however it’s not something most buyers think about during the transaction unless they have previously experienced or read about the unsightly holes, once the tag is removed. They are especially distracting on a painted bumper. You can read about a few repair techniques here, however these techniques are more practical with the earlier unpainted bumpers.
